Stephnie, I can't believe you think something they wrote 50 years ago is still valid today. I remember being paddled in school and that was the late 60s. Back in the 50s and 60s for that matter most people thought spanking a child was good, not just JWs. If you have any form of intelligence you have to admit that! Spankings was generally accepted by most americans. Hell it was legal in school. Parents (including JWs) who spank their children were probably spanked as a child. So when those people became JWs they spanked their kids. As Bobby Dooley would say "Are you for real".

Underwear You just don't see it. I am in good standing and I am not leading a double life. I would be an elder now if I didn't move halls. I am a MS. The WTS doesn't say anywhere that you can't go to a bar or an "R" movie. You let people tell you how God feels about things and how you should apply what the bible says. So yes you were infuenced by man. When I read the bible I see a good of love not one of fear. I don't fear the WTS, heck their just a bunch of men trying to do what is right and to help others. If other JWs want to live by all sorts of rules, good for them. There are actually very few rules in the bible which are ones people in general live by anyhow. A personal relationship with Gods is what is important. An organized religion can just help you get there.
For all those people that spanked their children with paddles and sticks, shame on you! I do think it is child abuse but its not just JW doing it.

Underwear-- Just what I thought, you have a fear of man!!! You were afraid of the people in the religion. I do feel most are unqualified and a bunch of hyopcrites but I don't care what they think. I can sit in a bar with my wife and friends or go to any movie I want. I am not a slave to what other people think. You probably replaced your fear of brothers with something else. My point is people blame the religion for their own short comings. You were afraid to be yourself because you thought too much of what they elders said or what other people think. You need to learn to be yourself in any situation. I bet your still not a "free" person. I don't mine to flame you but I don't like the bros being to be blamed for everything.

Underwear, I am not a slave to the WTS. I am setting on the fence? I don't think so. And if I am whats so bad about that? Like I said I don't think there is any one true religion, thats why I don't use the term "the truth". We don't know what the truth is. If there is a god he know how I feel. Why do I sense such hostility on this board? It seems like there are a lot of people caring around a lot of excess baggage that they have put on themselves and not the WTS which they are so quick to blame.

Six of nine, your fooling yourself. Can't you see what you so arrgonatly believe is the same bullshit? Its just your bullshit. My I suggest you seek council and learn to control your anger.
Since I was a little kid I never thought JW have the only true religion. In fact I am not so sure there is even a God, I am just hopeful there is. Because if there isnt there is nothing else and we would all be [deleted] like six! The only three things that I see are totally correct teachings is the trinity, hellfire and killing. Aren't some of the mainstreet religions turning the hose on hell now? I laugh at the Revelation book, I wonder what they were smoking when they wrote it. But I love the greatest man book and the new one.

My point is this: Weak people are motivated by what they want others to think of them. I could give a crap what some elder or ms (which I am) thinks. I don't and will not spank my child because he can't sit through a meeting. Its not natural for people and children to sit that long. People here all blame the brothers and sisters for their own lacking. People need to quit caring what other people think, don't give people such power over your lives. Being a JWs has nothing to do with what some dumb%$ elder thinks. If you spank your child because thats what you think they want your a fool. I just can't stand blind followers and the JWs seems to attract a lot of them.

I don't understand how you blame the JW for your mother. I have been raised in the truth and was told I was bad at the meetings. My parents never spanked me, they realized I was just a kidd. I have a little girl who is now 10, she was terrible at the meetings and we tryed as hard as possible to keep her quit (never spanking her). Once we were sitting in the front row and the CO came and was talking about children being noisey at the meetings. Funny thing was she was listening and threw her book at the CO. After words the CO came to me and we had a little chat. I asked him if he had any children or if he had raised any children and he said no. I thanked him for his opnion but told him his opnion was obviously coming from someone with no child raising experience. So what I mean is your mother raised you according to her interpration of the "truth".
I know have a 5 year boy that makes my 10 year seem like a dream. But he is slowly maturing. I realized that Jehovah did not require the Isrealites to go to so many meetings so I will never expect my kids to behave like adults for hours on end.
People have to stop blaming the religion for what elders, sisters etc say. I could give a crap what others think or say about me and my family. Yes we have our aholes but so does everyone else.

college education=spiritual weakness?

I have been a JW my whole life and went to college and earn a six figure income. I have been an MS for almost 20 years. I used to travel a lot for work. I wouldn't care what anyone says. I went in the late 70/early 80s. My only regret is I didn't go to law school like another family member. I am just a CPA.
Go and you really must not care what people think.
